A minor girl was saved from a forced marriage through the efforts of Muhtasibs in Zabul Province
Officials (Muhtasibs) of the Directorate for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Zabul Province, demonstrating their commitment to women's rights and aiming to prevent incidents of violence against women in society, prevented the forced marriage of a minor girl in Qalat, the provincial capital, through the mediation of tribal elders.
The girl's family members had intended to marry her off to a man against her will, citing misguided notions of honour and harmful traditional customs.
Officials (Muhtasibs) of the Directorate stated that they intervened and prevented this un-Islamic practice after learning that the girl's family intended to give her in marriage against her wishes, in accordance with harmful traditional customs.
The Muhtasibs added that no one has the right to buy or sell a free human being in exchange for money. Officials (Muhtasibs) of the Islamic Emirate are consistently striving to provide people with the conditions necessary for a peaceful life.
Meanwhile, in similar efforts, Muhtasibs in the province rescued seven women from various forms of oppression and helped them obtain their Sharia rights in Qalat city and the districts of Khak-e-Afghan, Shamulzai, and Naw Bahar.
