A Girl in Nangarhar Province Rescued from a Forced Marriage
As part of their ongoing activities, the officials (Muhtasibs) of the Nangarhar provincial office in Goshta district rescued a girl from a forced marriage. The girl had been kept at home by her mother since childhood with the intention of marrying her off in a (badal) exchange marriage, and she had remained without a clear future for nearly 13 years.
The officials (Muhtasibs) said that the girl had been kept at home nearly 13 years ago, when she was still a young child, after her mother had promised her in a badal marriage
She remained in this situation without a clear future. Following the girl’s complaint, it was determined that she had not married the boy in question and that no valid Islamic marriage had taken place between them. She was subsequently rescued from the situation by the officials.
After holding reconciliation meetings with representatives of both families, the officials prevented the girl from being forced into marriage. She was given permission to make her own decision, according to her wishes and free choice, regarding her future life and marriage.
