The efforts of the Muhtasibs led to the rescue of three women from forced marriages in three provinces

Personnel (Muhtasibs) of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice, and Hearing of Complaints ofg IEA, in Kabul, Paktika, and Balkh provinces prevented three cases of forced marriage involving young women, in line with the implementation of Is/la/mic Sh/ar/ia rulings and the protection of women’s legitimate rights.

These cases were identified after complaints were received from some relatives of the girls and following the necessary investigations conducted by the ministry’s personnel. The cases were comprehensively reviewed in the presence of the involved families. The investigations confirmed that attempts were being made to conduct marriage contracts without the free consent and choice of the girls an act that is considered invalid under Is/la/mic Sh/ar/ia.

Through the timely intervention of the ministry’s personnel, these marriages were prevented from taking place.

In separate meetings with the families of the girls, ministry personnel (Muhtasibs) in the aforementioned provinces provided religious guidance and advice, emphasizing the importance of fully observing Is/la/mic rulings concerning marriage.

They stressed that the consent and free choice of both the woman and the man are essential conditions for the validity of a marriage contract under Is/la/mic Sh/ar/ia, and that coercion has no place in religious teachings regarding marriage.

Furthermore, during the handling of these cases, the relevant families were required to provide formal commitments to refrain from any future actions that would contradict Is/la/mic Sh/ar/ia rulings and the legitimate rights of women.

They were also urged to observe divine limits and Is/la/mic principles in all aspects of their lives.
