Weekly Summary of the Activities of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice and Hearing of Complaints of Islamic Emirate of Afghanstan

Over the past week, the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice and Hearing of Complaints of IEA, in accordance with Islamic rulings and through the implementation of reform programs, has carried out effective activities aimed at promoting virtues, preventing vices, strengthening Islamic brotherhood, ensuring the Sharia rights of the people particularly women and combating practices contrary to Islamic law.

1. Promotion of Virtues and Elimination of Vices in Society

During the past week, officials (Muhtasibs) of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice and Hearing of Complaints conducted nearly 2,000 reform and awareness-raising sessions with officials and various segments of society while monitoring mosques, schools, government offices, hospitals, and public places across the country.

During these sessions, emphasis was placed on promoting virtues, preventing vices, and eliminating undesirable customs and practices in accordance with Islamic Shariah.

2. Combating Witchcraft and Sorcery

As part of efforts to safeguard Islamic values and prevent practices contrary to Sharia, the ministry’s officials (Muhtasibs) identified and arrested 13 individuals during the past week on allegations of witchcraft and sorcery in the provinces of Ghazni, Baghlan, Takhar, Parwan, Daikundi, and Balkh.

3. Resolving Disputes and Hostilities

In an effort to strengthen Islamic brotherhood, promote peace and reconciliation, resolve conflicts, and prevent division, ministry officials successfully resolved 16 cases of hostility and 48 family, ethnic, and local disputes during the past week, in cooperation with religious scholars and tribal elders, in accordance with Islamic Sharia.

4. Economic Sessions

In order to regulate markets, prevent hoarding and price gouging, and protect the rights of the public, the ministry’s officials (Muhtasibs) held 234 reform sessions with traders and shopkeepers during the past week.

Furthermore, nearly 8 tons of low-quality and expired food products were collected from markets, and their sale and distribution were prevented.

5. Addressing the Shariah Rights of Women

In accordance with Islamic Sharia, and with the aim of protecting women’s Sharia rights and ensuring religious justice, officials (Muhtasibs) of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice and Hearing of Complaints addressed 108 cases related to women during the past week.

As a result, 46 cases of injustice against women and 9 cases of forced marriage were prevented. 15 inheritance cases were reviewed, and the mahr (marital dowry) rights of 14 women were restored.

In addition, 10 cases concerning financial maintenance (Nafaqah) and 8 divorce cases were addressed, while arrangements were made to facilitate 6 lawful Islamic marriages.
