Officials  (Muhtasibs of the Department for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Ghazni Province, committed to protecting women's rights and preventing incidents of violence against women in society, intervened through local tribal elders in Muqur District to stop the forced marriage of a 15-year-old girl.

Her family had intended to marry her, against her will, to a 65-year-old elderly man in exchange for a large sum of money. The department’s inspectors prevented the marriage from taking place.

Regarding the incident, officials (Muhtasibs) of the Department for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in the province stated that this un-Is/la/mic case involved the family of the underage girl attempting to marry her, without her consent, to a 60-year-old man in return for a large payment. The officials intervened and stopped the marriage.

At the same time, inspectors of the department in Andar District prevented another case involving a woman whose in-laws, following her husband’s death, sought to marry her to another man without her consent.

This comes as inspectors (Muhtasibs) of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice, and Hearing of Complaints of IEA,  have reportedly addressed thousands of cases related to women’s rights across many provinces of the country, including forced marriages, confinement in homes, domestic violence, bride price (Walwar), and inheritance disputes. Their efforts in this regard are said to be ongoing.
