Summary of the Activities of the Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue, Prevention of Vice, and Hearing of Complaints During the Second Quarter of 1405 Solar Hijri
Within the framework of implementing the rulings of Islamic Sharia, strengthening religious values and ethics, maintaining social order, and safeguarding the legitimate rights of citizens, the Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue, Prevention of Vice, and Hearing of Complaints carried out extensive activities across the country during the second quarter of 1405 Solar Hijri.
1. Provincial Visits by Sheikh al-Hadith Mawlavi Mohammad Khalid Hanafi
Sheikh al-Hadith Mawlavi Mohammad Khalid Hanafi, Minister of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice, and Hearing of Complaints, continued his official and provincial visits during the second quarter of the current year. During these visits, he met with a number of respected religious scholars, senior clerics, tribal elders, and officials of the Emirate in various zones of the country and discussed religious and social issues with them.
During these meetings, he emphasized the implementation of the rulings of Islamic Sharia, enforcement of the Law on the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, and strengthening cooperation between the public and the Muhtasibs.
2. Ensuring the Sharia-Based and Legitimate Rights of Women
In accordance with the implementation of Islamic Sharia and the protection of women’s Sharia-based rights, officials of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice, and Hearing of Complaints addressed 1,312 cases related to women’s Sharia-based rights in Kabul and the provinces during the second quarter of the current year.1405 Solar Hijri.
As a result, 628 cases of oppression and 125 forced marriages were prevented; 147 inheritance cases and 116 alimony cases were addressed; the mahr (marital dower) of 131 women was restored; and arrangements were made for 85 girls to enter into Sharia-compliant marriages with their consent. In addition, 80 divorce cases were addressed.
3. Resolution of Feuds and Disputes
In order to strengthen Islamic unity and brotherhood and promote peace and peaceful coexistence, officials of the Ministry, in cooperation with religious scholars and tribal elders, peacefully and in accordance with established principles resolved 151 longstanding feuds and 681 disputes among communities and families in Kabul and the provinces during the second quarter of the current year.
4. Arrest of Individuals Accused of Practicing Magic
As part of the implementation of Islamic Sharia, the protection of Muslims’ religious beliefs, and efforts to prevent the promotion of practices considered polytheistic and the deception of people in the name of magic and sorcery, Muhtasibs identified and arrested 157 individuals described as professional practitioners of magic in Kabul and various provinces during the second quarter of the current year 1405 Solar Hijri.
