Summary of the Activities of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice, and Hearing of Complaintsof Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in month of Sunbula 1405 (Aug-Sep 2026)
Officials of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice, and Hearing of Complaints, in accordance with Islamic Sharia principles and within the framework of their reform programs, carried out various activities across the country during Sunbula 1405. These activities aimed to promote virtue, prevent vice, strengthen Islamic brotherhood, safeguard the Sharia-based rights of the people particularly women and prevent practices deemed contrary to Islamic Sharia.
1. Public Meetings
During the month of Sunbula 1405, the Ministry’s officials (Muhtasibs) held more than 5,000 reform and public awareness meetings across the country. These meetings were attended by religious scholars, tribal elders, youth, and members of various segments of society, with the aim of promoting virtue, preventing vice, and raising public awareness.
2. Addressing Women’s Sharia-Based Rights
As part of efforts to implement Islamic Sharia principles and safeguard women’s Sharia-based rights, Ministry officials (Muhtasibs) addressed 450 cases related to women’s rights during month of Sunbula 1405.
These cases included:
200 ses of mistreatment and injustice, 60 cases related to inheritance rights, 36 cases of forced marriage,47 cases related to dowry (Mahr), 51 ases related to financial maintenance (Nafaqah), 31 cases involving facilitating lawful Islamic marriage for girls, 25 cases related to divorce.
3. Resolving Disputes and Ending Hostilities
To strengthen Islamic brotherhood, promote peace, and facilitate reconciliation, Ministry officials (Muhtasibs) resolved 46 long-standing hostilities and 206 family, tribal, and local disputes during the month Sunbula.
These cases were resolved through consultation, mediation, and reconciliation based on Islamic Sharia principles.
4. Combating Witchcraft
As part of efforts to safeguard Islamic values and protect the religious beliefs of society, Ministry officials identified and arrested a total of 62 individuals accused of practicing witchcraft in Kabul and several provinces during the month of Sunbula 1405.
5. Meetings and Economic Activities
In an effort to prevent hoarding, the sale of poor-quality and expired goods, and unjustified price increases, as well as to protect consumer rights, Ministry officials(Muhtasibs) held 981 reform meetings with traders, industrialists, shopkeepers, and other economic actors in various provinces during the month of Sunbula.
In addition, more than 20 metric tons of low-quality and expired food products were collected from markets and, after completing the required legal procedures, destroyed.
