Officials (Muhtasibs) of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice, and Hearing of Complaints of EIA. have prevented two cases of forced marriage in Helmand and Jawzjan provinces, in line with efforts to safeguard the Sh.ar.ia-based rights of women. Additionally, they facilitated the marriage of a young woman in Ghazni province.
These actions were taken following complaints lodged by women whose families had attempted to compel them into marriages without their consent. After conducting comprehensive investigations, ministry officials in the aforementioned provinces intervened and successfully halted the forced marriages.
Furthermore, the relevant families were provided with guidance and awareness regarding the importance of upholding women’s Sh.ar.ia rights, particularly the principle of consent in marriage.
As a result, family members expressed remorse and pledged to respect women’s rights in the future, ensuring that their daughters’ marriages are conducted based on consent and in accordance with religious values.
