In Paktia, Muhtasibs prevented two marriages that were not in accordance with Islamic Sharia
Inspectors (Muhtasibs) from the Paktia Department of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice, and Hearing of Complaints rescued two women whose families allegedly intended to marry them off without their consent because of large financial payments and harmful customary practices.
The two women, who were reportedly being forced into marriage against their wishes in exchange for substantial sums of money and under harmful traditional customs, were prevented from being married after they submitted complaints to the provincial Department for the Promotion of Virtue seeking resolution of their cases.
The ministry stated that protecting women's sharia rights is one of its priorities and affirmed that it will not allow anyone to violate those rights.
