As part of their continued efforts, the Balkh officials (Muhtasibs) have arrested two individuals accused of practicing sorcery. The two men allegedly created discord and problems among families under the guise of spiritual healing and amulets, and carried out harmful acts of witchcraft and magic in exchange for money.

They were arrested along with numerous books on sorcery and what officials (Muhtasibs) described as non-Islamic amulets.

Officials (Muhtasibs) said that the two alleged sorcerers were arrested along with their tools and materials.

They reportedly took money from local residents on the pretext of resolving family problems and carried out what officials described as unlawful practices. They will be referred to judicial and legal authorities for further investigation.

Officials (Muhtasibs) said they would not allow anyone to engage in superstitious or un-Islamic practices in society. They also called on the public to cooperate with the officials in eliminating such practices.

This comes after the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice, and Hearing the Complaints of IEA, imposed a ban on the activities of sorcerers.

Since then, according to the ministry, thousands of alleged sorcerers have been arrested and handed over to judicial and legal authorities for decisions in accordance with Sharia law.
