Muhtasibs in Paktia, Maidan Wardak, Ghor, and Balkh provinces rescued five women from un-Islamic marriages
Muhtasibs (inspectors) of the Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue, Prevention of Vice, and Hearing of Complaints in the provinces of Paktia, Maidan Wardak, Ghor, and Balkh rescued five women whose families had allegedly intended to marry them off against their will in exchange for large sums of money and in accordance with harmful customary practices.
According to the ministry, the women were at risk of being forced into marriages without their consent as a result of these harmful traditions and financial arrangements. The marriages were prevented after the women submitted complaints to the provincial directorates of the Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue, Prevention of Vice, and Hearing of Complaints, seeking intervention and resolution of their cases.
