In Kunduz Province, a woman obtained her Islamic marriage rights through the efforts of the Muhtasibs*

Officials (Muhtasibs) of the Department for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice, and Hearing of Complaints of IEA, in Kunduz Province helped a widowed woman obtain her Is/la/mic marriage rights after her brothers-in-law had prevented her from marrying by her own choice.

According to the Muhtasibs, the woman’s husband had passed away and her waiting period (iddah) had been completed.She wished to marry according to Is/la/mic law and by her own choice, but members of her family were preventing her from doing it.

Officials (Muhtasibs) added that a woman’s consent in marriage is her legitimate Is/la/mic right and that women must be allowed to exercise this right. They stated: “We will not allow anyone to violate women’s rights, and we will continue to prevent incidents that threaten the rights of women.
