In the course of their operations, the Muhtasibs in Balkh, Sar-e-Pul, and Paktika provinces arrested three individuals accused of practicing sorcery.

The suspects allegedly used incantations and amulets to create discord and disputes among families and performed acts of sorcery in exchange for money.

They were apprehended along with numerous books on sorcery and non-Sharia-compliant amulets.

According to the officials, the three suspects had been collecting money from local residents under the pretext of resolving family problems while providing non-Sharia-compliant amulets and engaging in practices described as sorcery. The suspects, together with the seized materials, will be referred to the relevant judicial and prosecutorial authorities for further investigation.

The Muhtasibs reaffirmed their commitment to preventing superstitious and non-Sharia-compliant practices in society and stated that they will not allow anyone to engage in such activities. They also called on the public to cooperate with the Muhtasibs in eliminating similar unlawful practices.

This comes after the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice, and Hearing of Complaints of IEA, imposed a ban on the activities of individuals accused of practicing sorcery.

According to the ministry, thousands of such individuals have since been arrested and referred to the judicial authorities for decisions in accordance with Islamic law.
