Muhtasibs rescued a girl from being given away in exchange for a large amount of money in Kabul province

Officials (Muhtasibs) of the Kabul Department for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, committed to protecting women's rights and preventing incidents of violence against women in society, prevented the forced marriage of a minor girl in Mir Bacha Kot District through the mediation of local community elders.

The girl's family had intended to marry her to a man against her will in exchange for a large sum of money.

Officials (Muhtasibs) from the department stated that they intervened to stop what they described as an un-Is/la/mic marriage arrangement, in which the minor girl's family was planning to marry her off without her consent in return for a substantial payment.

The officials (Muhtasibs) added that no one has the right to buy or sell a free human being for money.

They said that the officials (Muhtasibs) of the Is/la/mic Emirate are continually working to provide people with the conditions for a peaceful life.

This comes as the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice, and Hearing of Complaints of IEA, says its inspectors (Muhtasibs) have resolved thousands of cases across many provinces involving forced marriages, unlawful confinement within homes, domestic violence, bride price (walwar), and inheritance disputes related to women's rights, and that these efforts are ongoing
