Summary of the Weekly Activities of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice, and Hearing of Complaints of IEA
Officials (Muhtasibs)of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice, and Hearing of Complaints of IEA, within the framework of implementing Islamic Sh/ar/,ia rulings and in cooperation with various segments of society, have carried out extensive and effective activities aimed at strengthening religious values, ensuring social order, promoting virtues, and preventing vices.
1. Addressing Women’s Sh/ar/,ia Rights:
During the current week, the ministry’s personnel handled 124 cases related to women’s Sh/ar/,ia rights. Among these, 66 cases of oppression were prevented, 14 inheritance cases were reviewed, 10 forced marriages were stopped, 13 dowries were restored, 11 alimony cases were addressed, the conditions for 4 Sh/ar/,ia-compliant marriages were facilitated, and 6 divorce cases were processed.2. Resolving Disputes and Hostilities:
With the cooperation of religious scholars and community elders, the ministry’s officials (Muhtasibs) successfully resolved 11 cases of long-standing enmity and 49 major and minor disputes among tribes and families across the capital and several provinces, based on Sh/ar/,ia principles.
3. Arrest of Sorcerers:
In an effort to safeguard Islamic values and prevent practices contrary to Sh/ar/,ia, ministry personnel (Muhtasibs) arrested 8 individuals accused of sorcery in the provinces of Daikundi, Jawzjan, Baghlan, Kabul, Balkh, and Nangarhar. After initial investigations, they were referred to judicial authorities for further legal proceedings. 4. Economic Meetings:
To prevent hoarding, fraud in weights, and ensure Sh/ar/,ia compliance in transactions, ministry officials (Muhtasibs) held 167 coordination and reform meetings with traders and shopkeepers across various provinces during the week. Additionally, hundreds of kilograms of low-quality and expired food items were collected from markets and destroyed.
5. Public Outreach Meetings:
Finally, as part of promoting virtues, preventing vices, and combating harmful customs and traditions, the ministry conducted nearly 500 reform and awareness sessions during the week with religious scholars, community elders, youth, and other segments of society throughout the country.
