Two Cases of Forced Marriage Prevented in Sar-e Pol and Ghazni Provinces

Officials (Muhtasibs) of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice, and Hearing of Complaints of IEA, in an effort to implement the rulings of Islamic Sharia and safeguard the religious rights of the public, particularly women, prevented two cases of forced marriage in cooperation with religious scholars and tribal elders.

The cases occurred in Deh Yak District of Ghazni Province and Al-Fath District of Sar-e Pol Province.

The cases were investigated and addressed by ministry officials (Muhtasibs) after the families of the two girls intended to marry them off against their will and without their consent.

Following the review and investigation of these cases, the two forced marriages were prevented, creating an opportunity to uphold the girls’ religious rights, particularly their right to choose their spouses.

Officials (Muhtasibs) of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue in Sar-e Pol and Ghazni provinces held separate meetings with the families involved in these cases.

During the meetings, they emphasized the importance of observing the rulings and guidance of Islamic Sharia in marriage matters.

They stressed that marriage must take place in accordance with Islamic principles and regulations, and that no one should force another person to marry against their will.

They further stated that protecting women’s religious rights, preventing injustice, and addressing family-related cases are among the important responsibilities of officials.

They also emphasized that, under the Islamic system, compliance with the rulings of Sharia and the protection of the rights granted to individuals by Islam are of particular importance.
